Gwinnett’s Diversity Is Our Strength: Policies That Create Fear Hurt Us All

DACULA, GA — Former State Representative Farooq Mughal today reaffirmed his support for policies that strengthen community trust and reflect Gwinnett County’s diverse population.

“Gwinnett is one of the most diverse counties in the Southeast, and that diversity is a source of strength,” Mughal said. “Policies that create fear or target immigrant communities undermine public safety and weaken our social fabric. U.S. citizens from diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds are being unfairly targeted by federal actions, raising serious concerns about civil rights and equal treatment.” Mughal also understands growing community alarm about the potential presence of ICE at major events like the World Cup games, warning that such actions could intimidate families, suppress attendance, and damage Georgia’s reputation on the global stage.

Mughal has long advocated for inclusive policies that support families, protect civil rights, and encourage economic participation.

“When communities feel safe and respected, they contribute more fully to our schools, businesses, and neighborhoods,” he said. “Georgia’s future depends on unity, not division.”
