OPPOSING ANY DHS PLAN TO CONVERT A WAREHOUSE NEAR THE MALL OF GEORGIA (HD-105) INTO A FEDERAL FACILITY

U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS)
Georgia Congressional Delegation
Governor of Georgia

Georgia House and Senate Delegation
Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners
City of Buford Officials

We, the undersigned residents, business owners, and community stakeholders of Georgia House District 105 and the surrounding Buford/Mall of Georgia area, strongly oppose any current or future proposal by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to convert a warehouse near the Mall of Georgia into a federal processing or detention facility.

Our community is already experiencing:

  • Severe traffic congestion and overburdened roadways

  • Rapid development that strains local infrastructure

  • Overcrowded schools and limited public safety resources

  • Quality‑of‑life impacts from high‑density commercial activity

Introducing a federal facility of this scale—without transparent community engagement, impact studies, or local approval—would place an unacceptable burden on our neighborhoods and jeopardize the safety, stability, and character of District 105.

We believe:

  • Federal agencies must consult local leaders and residents before considering any such project.

  • Any proposal that affects our community must undergo a full public review, including traffic, safety, and economic impact assessments.

  • District 105 deserves responsible development, not rushed federal decisions that ignore local realities.

Therefore, we respectfully demand that DHS immediately halt any planning, evaluation, or consideration of converting a warehouse in the Mall of Georgia area into a federal facility.

We call on our elected officials at every level to stand with us, protect our community, and ensure that no federal project moves forward without full transparency and community consent.

By signing below, we affirm our opposition and urge immediate action to safeguard the interests of Georgia House District 105.
