Dacula, GA — 3/9/2026 — Former Georgia State Representative for House District 105, Farooq Mughal, is calling on Governor Brian Kemp to temporarily suspend Georgia’s state gas tax in order to provide immediate economic relief to families and small businesses across Gwinnett County.

Mughal noted that rising fuel costs are placing significant pressure on homeowners and local employers in Dacula, Buford, and Lawrenceville, where many small businesses rely on transportation, delivery, and commuter traffic to operate.
“Small businesses in our community are hurting, and families are feeling the strain every time they fill up their tank,” Mughal said. “A temporary suspension of the gas tax would offer meaningful, immediate relief.”
During his tenure representing HD‑105, Mughal worked closely with local business owners and community leaders. He emphasized that the current economic pressures—driven by higher operating costs, supply chain challenges, and inflation—are creating difficult conditions for employers and workers alike.
Mughal is urging the Governor’s office to act swiftly, stating that a suspension of the gas tax would help stabilize costs for residents who depend on their vehicles for work, school, and daily life. He also noted that similar temporary suspensions in past years provided measurable financial relief to Georgia families.
“Gwinnett County’s economy depends on strong small businesses and stable household budgets,” Mughal said. “This is a practical step the state can take right now to ease the burden.”
