Former Rep. Farooq Mughal Calls on Gov. Kemp to Continue the Suspension of the State Gas Tax as Families Struggle with Rising Costs

DACULA, GA — Former State Representative Farooq Mughal today urged Governor Brian Kemp to continue Georgia’s suspension of the state gas tax, citing ongoing financial pressure on working families and small businesses.

“Georgia families are still feeling the strain of higher prices at the pump and across the economy,” Mughal said. “Extending the suspension of the gas tax is a practical, immediate way to provide relief. When families are choosing between filling their tank and paying other essential bills, state leaders must act.”

Mughal noted that during his time in the General Assembly, he consistently supported measures that reduced financial burdens on middle‑class families and strengthened local economic stability.

“Every dollar matters right now,” he added. “Keeping the gas tax suspended gives families breathing room while the state continues to experience strong revenue collections.”
