Former Rep. Farooq Mughal Calls for More Accessible and Affordable Healthcare Across Georgia

DACULA, GA — Former State Representative Farooq Mughal today urged state leaders to expand access to affordable healthcare, particularly in rural and underserved areas.

“Too many Georgians are uninsured, underinsured, or traveling long distances to receive basic care,” Mughal said. “Healthcare access should not depend on your ZIP code.”

Mughal has supported efforts to strengthen hospital networks, expand mental‑health services, and improve affordability for working families. Mughal also points out independent analyses showing that Georgia's current limited Medicaid program has cost taxpayers over $86 million while covering only a fraction of eligible residents: a sign that a broader, more cost-effective solution is needed.

“Georgia must invest in a healthcare system that meets the needs of every resident,” he said. “Healthy families build strong communities.”
